Audition FAQs
Interested in auditioning for the Loreleis? Here are a few FAQs—we hope to see you there!
What does the time commitment for joining this group look like?
We have 3 hour long rehearsals biweekly leading up to our concert at the end of each semester! We additionally have one or two gigs a month that require some additional time.
We’d encourage anyone interested to audition regardless of the other extracurriculars you’re involved in. We have current members involved in UNC Student Government, Greek life, The Daily Tar Heel, research, volunteering, the Morehead-Cain Scholarship, UNC Chamber Choir, religious organizations, and more.
“How do I sign up for an audition?”
You have to first fill out the pan-a cappella audition form, and then sign up for an audition slot using the Loreleis-specific Calendly link! However, we only hold auditions in the fall, unlike some groups who also audition in the spring.
“What should I expect the audition to look like?”
The audition will begin with some simple warm ups followed by a brief sight-reading exercise. You’ll finish by singing us your solo (verse+chorus) and we’ll ask you some questions to get to know you better!
“What song should I prepare for the audition?”
For the audition, all you need to prepare is a verse and a chorus from any song of your choice completely a cappella. It can be any genre: pop, R&B, rock, hiphop, country, folk, indie, jazz, etc. — we typically ask folks to keep it contemporary and to avoid musical theatre, but just choose whatever makes you feel the most comfortable + confident!
“What should I do if I can’t make an audition time slot?”
If you sign up for an audition slot and find out that you cannot make it, or cannot make any of the available times in the Calendly- immediately contact the President of The Loreleis, Kate Cherry via email cherkate@unc.edu.
“What should I wear to the audition?”
Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in and is authentic to you. There is no need to dress up if you don’t want to, but if that would make you feel better then go for it!
“What should I bring to my audition?”
Just yourself and a water bottle if you’d like!
“Why should I audition for the Loreleis?”
Hear it from a few current Loreleis…
“You should audition for the Loreleis if you are looking to be a part of something meaningful. I could not imagine my college experience without the Loreleis – I not only get to sing and perform but I get to do it with my best friends!!”
“Loreleis has been the easiest decision of my college life. Some of my best memories have been making music with the las and experiencing the beauty of having such a supportive and uplifting community of talented and intelligent women.”
“The Loreleis is the best thing I’ve ever been a part of!! They immediately surrounded me with such love, and that has only grown since joining. This group is full of supportive, intentional, TALENTED, beautiful, and fun women. Keeping music in my life during my college transition was the best decision, and I couldn’t imagine a better group to do it with.”
“When I was escorted into my audition room, I was personally drawn to the grace and warmth with which the members carried themselves. The group was and continues to be so supportive. As a Lorelei, I find comfort in having a group of girls with a shared passion. I’ve challenged myself as a musician and entwined myself in a wonderful legacy!”
“You should audition for the Loreleis if you love to sing, love to perform, and are looking for the most supportive, uplifting, sisterly bond unlike anything you’ve felt before!”
